155OccupationalSafetyandHealthAdmin.,Labor§1910.66Afterthedesireddegreeofevacuationiscompleted,thewardensshouldbeabletoac-countfororotherwiseverifythatallem-ployeesareinthesafeareas.Inbuildingswithseveralplacesofemploy-ment,employersareencouragedtocoordi-natetheirplanswiththeotheremployersinthebuilding.Abuilding-wideorstandardizedplanforthewholebuildingisacceptablepro-videdthattheemployersinformtheirre-spectiveemployeesoftheirdutiesandre-sponsibilitiesundertheplan.Thestandard-izedplanneednotbekeptbyeachemployerinthemulti-employerbuilding,providedthereisanaccessiblelocationwithinthebuildingwheretheplancanbereviewedbyaffectedemployees.Whenmulti-employerbuilding-wideplansarenotfeasible,employ-ersshouldcoordinatetheirplanswiththeotheremployerswithinthebuildingtoas-surethatconflictsandconfusionareavoidedduringtimesofemergencies.Inmulti-storybuildingswheremorethanoneemployerisonasinglefloor,itisessentialthattheseemployerscoordinatetheirplanswitheachothertoavoidconflictsandconfusion.4.Firepreventionhousekeeping.Thestand-ardcallsforthecontrolofaccumulationsofflammableandcombustiblewastematerials.Itistheintentofthisstandardtoassurethathazardousaccumulationsofcombus-tiblewastematerialsarecontrolledsothatafastdevelopingfire,rapidspreadoftoxicsmoke,oranexplosionwillnotoccur.Thisdoesnotnecessarilymeanthateachroomhastobeswepteachday.Employersandem-ployeesshouldbeawareofthehazardouspropertiesofmaterialsintheirworkplaces,andthedegreeofhazardeachposes.Cer-tainlyoilsoakedragshavetobetreateddif-ferentlythangeneralpapertrashinofficeareas.However,largeaccumulationsofwastepaperorcorrugatedboxes,etc.,canposeasignificantfirehazard.Accumulationsofmaterialswhichcancauselargefiresorgeneratedensesmokethatareeasilyignitedormaystartfromspontaneouscombustion,arethetypesofmaterialswithwhichthisstandardisconcerned.Suchcombustiblema-terialsmaybeeasilyignitedbymatches,welder’ssparks,cigarettesandsimilarlowlevelenergyignitionsources.5.Maintenanceofequipmentunderthefirepreventionplan.Certainequipmentisofteninstalledinworkplacestocontrolheatsourcesortodetectfuelleaks.Anexampleisatemperaturelimitswitchoftenfoundondeep-fatfoodfryersfoundinrestaurants.Theremaybesimilarswitchesforhightem-peraturediptanks,orflamefailureandflashbackarresterdevicesonfurnacesandsimilarheatproducingequipment.Ifthesedevicesarenotproperlymaintainedoriftheybecomeinoperative,adefinitefirehaz-ardexists.Againemployeesandsupervisorsshouldbeawareofthespecifictypeofcon-troldevicesonequipmentinvolvedwithcombustiblematerialsintheworkplaceandshouldmakesure,throughperiodicinspec-tionortesting,thatthesecontrolsareoper-able.Manufacturers’recommendationsshouldbefollowedtoassurepropermainte-nanceprocedures.[45FR60714,Sept.12,1980]SubpartF—PoweredPlatforms,Manlifts,andVehicle-Mount-edWorkPlatformsAUTHORITY:Sections4,6,and8oftheOccu-pationalSafetyandHealthActof1970(29U.S.C.653,655,657);SecretaryofLabor’sOrderNo.12–71(36FR8754),8–76(41FR25059),9–83(48FR35736),1–90(55FR9033),or5–2007(72FR31159),asapplicable;and29CFRpart1911.§1910.66Poweredplatformsforbuild-ingmaintenance.(a)Scope.Thissectioncoverspoweredplatforminstallationspermanentlydedicatedtointeriororexteriorbuild-ingmaintenanceofaspecificstructureorgroupofstructures.Thissectiondoesnotapplytosuspendedscaffolds(swingingscaffolds)usedtoservicebuildingsonatemporarybasisandcoveredundersubpar...
